Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods and mudslides in Thathri town of Doda district on Tuesday, causing widespread damage to residential houses, shops, vehicles, and public infrastructure, officials said.

Floodwaters carrying large amounts of mud and debris swept through several localities of Thathri, damaging dozens of homes, commercial establishments, and parked vehicles. Some vehicles were reportedly washed away by the strong currents.

The incessant rainfall also triggered landslides and mudslides at multiple locations along the Doda–Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244), forcing authorities to suspend vehicular movement on the crucial road.

Officials said restoration teams have been deployed to clear the accumulated debris and reopen the highway at the earliest. Meanwhile, the district administration has begun assessing the extent of damage caused by the flash floods.

There were no immediate reports of any loss of life. Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure public safety and restore normalcy.
