In an effort to curb unlawful activities, the Awantipora Police have initiated a thorough inquiry into vehicle transactions across the police district. Conducted by Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs), this drive involves visiting all car dealerships to scrutinize vehicle sale and purchase records.

Police officials reported that the inquiry specifically targets instances where one individual purchases multiple vehicles, a pattern closely associated with potential illegal activities. The inspections also entail verification of dealership documentation to ensure adherence to legal protocols.

Car dealers are now required to maintain comprehensive records for each transaction. This includes collecting Aadhaar details, phone numbers, and relevant contact information from both buyers and sellers, aiming for enhanced transparency and accountability in vehicle dealings.

The initiative reflects a broader strategy aimed at strengthening surveillance measures to combat the use of vehicles in anti-social or criminal activities. “This exercise is vital in ensuring that vehicles do not become tools for illegal practices,” stated one police official.

SSP Awantipora highlighted the significance of preventive policing in this context. He asserted that vigilant monitoring of vehicle transactions plays a crucial role in averting potential misuse by anti-social or anti-national elements. He further stressed that public cooperation and proactive engagement from dealers are essential in fostering peace and maintaining law and order in the region.

The Awantipora Police reiterated their commitment to public safety, pledging to adopt more proactive and preventive measures in their operations. Such initiatives are pivotal in not only enforcing the law but also in building trust within the community.
