Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmad Rana addresses issues related to daily-wagers

SRINAGAR, Oct 30: The Minister for the Jal Shakti Department, Javed Ahmad Rana, announced today that a comprehensive policy for the regularization of daily-wagers is currently under consideration. This statement came in response to a question raised by MLA Dr. Sajjad Shafi during a session in the Legislative Assembly.

The need for such a policy arises due to significant staff shortages faced by the department. According to Minister Rana, this gap mainly stems from the superannuation of multiple field employees over recent years.

Addressing concerns about these staffing shortages, the Minister highlighted that the PHE Sub-Division in Uri currently houses 125 Assistant Linemen, with only eight lineman posts available. These numbers indicate a pressing need for effective workforce management to ensure uninterrupted services.

While a formal recruitment process is still under discussion, Minister Rana ensured the public that interim measures are in place. To maintain a steady water supply and continue operations of various Water Supply Schemes (WSS), the department has deployed available manpower. This includes both regular employees and daily-wagers, who contribute crucially to operations until the vacant positions are filled.

The Jal Shakti Department plays a vital role in providing safe and reliable water supply to the people. Regularization of daily-wagers would not only address manpower deficits but also enhance the stability and quality of service delivery.

Minister Rana’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to improving labor conditions while dealing with operational challenges within the department.
