PATNA, Nov 14: The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has taken a significant lead in the early counting results of the Bihar Assembly elections, securing 166 seats and surpassing the majority mark of 122, as reported by the Election Commission.
The opposition alliance, known as the INDIA bloc, trails considerably, leading in only 59 out of the total 243 seats. Election officials noted that these numbers could change as several rounds of counting remain pending.
As of now, the NDA’s composition shows the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in 72 seats, followed closely by the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) with 71 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) secured 18, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) led in four, and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha managed to capture one seat.
On the other hand, within the INDIA bloc, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) claims a lead in 43 seats, while the Indian National Congress garners only eight. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation leads in six, and both CPI and CPI(M) have secured one seat each.
Notably, the Jan Suraaj Party led by Prashant Kishor, along with Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party, currently remains behind in all constituencies they contested.
Among the high-profile candidates in the fray, Khesari Lal Yadav from the RJD is trailing in Chhapra, while BJP’s Maithili Thakur leads in Alinagar. The RJD’s Osama Shahab advances in Ragunathpur, and JD(U) minister Leshi Singh is leading in Dhamdaha.
INDIA bloc’s Chief Ministerial face, Tejashwi Yadav, holds a narrow lead in Raghopur. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary, representing Tarapur, and Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai are also showing signs of leading in their respective constituencies.
Challenges arise for Tej Pratap Yadav, who is positioned in fourth place in Mahua, where LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh claims the lead.
